| Schweitzer's Influence on Organ Building |
His
writings on organ building were influential in the early years of the
Organ Reform Movement, the move in fashion away from the large nineteenth
century Romantic instruments to the more refined instruments suited to
Baroque music. His pamphlet, The Art of German and French Organ building
and playing, was published in 1906, setting out his ideas for the
perfect organ, with comparisons between contemporary French and German
styles of instrument. He presented his ideas on modern organ building
again to the Vienna Congress of the International Musical Society in 1909.
